AFX Super International Track

AFX Super International Track Set

AFX’s track sets have always been highly regarded among slot car racers. One of those sets considered to be AFX’s finest is known as the AFX Super International Track. However, before you consider adding this course to your set, there are a few things that you need to know about.

AFX Track Details

The Super International Track Set is one of AFX’s largest track sets to date. The entire track is 25 feet long and is composed of 86 different track pieces.

This includes 6 bridge pieces, 28 track pieces of varying lengths, 20 guard rails, 54 curved track pieces, and 2 terminal track pieces.

As with every AFX set, the Super International Track can be configured into other courses. In fact, you can come up with 18 different layouts with the pieces, including the main track.

However, the massive parts count means this set is not ideal for constant disassembly and re-assembly. Therefore, if you purchase this set, it is recommended that you only change the layout when it is necessary.

AFX Slot Car Details

The Super International Track set comes with 4 1/64 slot cars modeled after Formula 1 race cars. It is important to remember that the 1/64 scale is the smallest size used in slot car racing. This means that these slot cars are small enough to fit in the palm of an older person.

However, that does not mean that AFX skimped on the details with the included cars. Despite the small size, these 1/64 slot cars come with a lot of details taken from their real-life counterparts. This includes distinguishable markings like car numbers and decals.

Aside from their detailed appearance, these slot cars are also powered by AFX’s newest HO chassis: the Mega-G+. This chassis allows for quick acceleration and top speeds that are easy to maintain at sharp turns.

The cars also feature systems like magnetic locks, carbon power brushes, and a design that lowers their center of gravity. This means that the chances of these slot cars veering off course or flying off the pins are minimal even at the 12 to 22-volt settings.

Playability

The Super International Track set also comes with a number of control panels that enable you to manage each race easily. For example, the Directional Power Pack allows the controller to change the direction of the course with the flip of a switch.

On the other hand, the Tri-Power Pack offers 3 power levels which change how the slot cars perform on the track.

  • 8V – This is the lowest power setting and is great for warm-up and training courses. The slot cars here travel at adequate to slow speeds, which means the chances of them flying off the track are minimal.
  • 12V – In this setting, the race picks up the pace as the slot cars travel faster. This setting is ideal for racers who have mastered the basics of the sport.
  • 22V – This is the Tri-Power Pack’s highest possible setting. At this level, cars will run at their full power. In addition, they may fly off the lane if their racer is not careful.

The best part about these settings is that you can change them mid-race. The race official need only press a button to change the settings to keep the race as dynamic as possible for participants.

Track Stability

One might think that the high parts count would make the Super International Set quite fragile. However, this is quite far from the truth. Each piece consists of hard and durable plastic with an interlocking peg and joint system at the edges.

This means that the set is not likely to collapse under its own weight, provided that you follow the instructions correctly. If track pieces do break for one reason or another, they can be replaced easily. AFX does offer several track expansion packs for track owners wanting to repair or expand on their sets.

Is AFX Compatible With Scalextric?

Unfortunately, even with adapters, you cannot use Scalextric track pieces with AFX or Tyco/Mattel track. This is due to the different sizes and designs of the plastic used to make these tracks.

Both Scalextric and AFX make excellent slot car sets that would make for a great addition to any enthusiast’s collection. If you are looking for a complete set that is easy to set up and has great playability, then the AFX Super International Track Set is a great option.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a bit more of a challenge, then the Scalextric Sport Digital Plug-In Lap Counter Racing Set would be a better choice. With its wide assortment of track pieces and digital features, the Scalextric set provides a more immersive experience for racers.

Are Tyco and AFX Slot Cars Compatabile?

With the right adapters, you can use Tyco and AFX slot cars on the same track. These adapters are readily available online and in most hobby stores.

The main difference between these two brands is that AFX slot cars are typically geared towards beginners, while Tyco slot cars are more suited for experienced racers. However, both brands offer a wide variety of sets and track pieces that can be used to create exciting layouts.

If you are just getting started in the world of slot car racing, then the AFX Super International Track Set is a great place to start. On the other hand, if you are looking for a more challenging set-up, then the Tyco Terra Claw would be a better option.

Should I Get an Electric or a Nitro Slot Car?

This is a difficult question to answer as it depends on your preferences as a racer.

Electric slot cars are typically less expensive and easier to maintain than their nitro-powered counterparts. They are also quieter and emit fewer fumes, making them more suitable for indoor use.

Nitro slot cars, on the other hand, are more powerful and tend to be faster than electric cars. They can also be more difficult to control, making them better suited for experienced racers.

If you are just getting started in the world of slot car racing, then an electric car would be a good place to start. On the other hand, if you are looking for a more challenging and exhilarating experience, then a nitro-powered car would be a better option.

How Do I Fix My AFX Slot Car?

Depending on the problem, there are a few different ways to fix an AFX slot car.

If the car is not running smoothly, then it is likely that the wheels are not properly seated on the axles. To fix this, simply remove the wheels and reattach them, making sure that they are firmly in place.

If the cars are not staying on the track, then it is likely that the magnets are not strong enough. To fix this, simply remove the existing magnets and replace them with stronger ones.

If the cars are not reaching their top speed, then it is likely that the gears are not properly meshed. To fix this, simply remove the gears and realign them so that they properly mesh.

In most cases, these simple fixes will solve the majority of problems that you may encounter with your AFX slot cars. However, if the problem persists, then it is advisable to contact AFX customer support for further assistance.

What Is the Best Way to Clean My Slot Car Track?

The best way to clean your slot car track is with a can of compressed air and a soft cloth.

Start by removing any debris or dirt from the track using compressed air. Once the track is clean, use a soft cloth to wipe down the surface, removing any remaining dirt or grime.

It is important to avoid using any chemicals or cleaners on the track, as these can damage the surface and potentially cause the cars to lose traction.

Once the track is clean, it is important to dry it completely before racing on it again. This will help to prevent any dirt or grime from building up on the track and affecting the race.

Overall – The AFX Super International Track Set

AFX has always provided track sets that rarely disappoint. The Super International lives up to that standard. The track has enough features to keep races interesting. Also, the slot cars themselves can keep up with more notable 1:64 cars through their Mega-G+ engines.

All in all, the AFX Super International Track set is the very definition of a complete package. If the price and the massive parts count do not intimidate you, then this set should make for a worthy addition to your collection.
